Hey everybody. Wheezy here.
Mr. Johnny has peer pressured me into trying to draw more, something I should be peer pressuring myself to do (is it still called “peer” pressure if it’s yourself?). As such I’ll be joining in on the ongoing Hunger Games theme, bringing a slightly different style as well as capitalization to the Finn Comics world.
*SPOILER* If you haven’t finished reading the first book you should probably bail to another site now.
First up, Miss Katniss Everdeen. I wanted to try and draw the characters in moments that showed elements of their personality, and with Katniss, her goodbye to Rue really stuck in my mind grapes. Hope ya like it!
the next character design for the Hunger Game is President Snow! now, i’ve only finished the first book and just started the second of the trilogy. therefore, my vision for President Snow is quite limited. even so, this is how i picture him. regal, long suit, perhaps a mixture of black, white, and either red or blue. maybe yellow. a thick set of white hair, but with soft eyes. why the soft eyes? well, he’s got to lure you in before he goes all bad on you!
comments are welcome!
i wrapped up the character sketches of HBO’s Game of Thrones last week and this week kicks off a new endeavor! in conjuction with my jamm partner and animator extraordinaire, Wheezy, we’ll be doing character designs for the Hunger Games! i think this is perfect timing as not many images from the upcoming movie has been released yet. thsi will give us more creativity as to what these characters look like in our head.
first up is the main character herself, Katniss Everdeen. now, i haven’t done much in costume design and it’s much harder than it looks. i thought i could just draw some lines and boom, there’d be an awesome outfit. but i found i had to do some research as to what archery gear there is and such. anyways, below are some concepts for Katniss.
saving one of the best for last, i present to you the Khaleesi from HBO’s Game of Thrones, Daenerys Targaryen! i think one of the things i love most from this series is all the fantastic quotes and one liners. for her, “my heart is not gentle.”
done in Copic multiliner 0.1 and 0.5 in my sketch book.
back to the Game of Thrones sketches! i was out of town last weekend, hence the lack of drawings. this week we kick it off with Jorah Mormont! now, i really like this guy but cant tell who’s side he’s on. all i know is that the Khaleesi should feel safe with him around!
this is my second attempt at drawing him, and i’m much happier with this one, although it’s kind of light with only 20 minutes worth of drawing. done in Copic 0.1 multiliner on the face and beard, and 0.5 for the hair and clothing.
watched last night’s new episode of Games of Thrones and Tyrion Lannister is becoming one of my favorite characters on the show. despite his physical challenge, especially in that culture, he’s been able to survive, with humor and style! here’s hoping he survives being a Lannister!
done with Copic multiliner 0.1 and 0.5, with sketch for the solid blacks.
finally got to one of my favorite actresses and part of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Lena Headley. you may know her from the short lived Sarah Conner Chronicles or as the king’s wife in the movie 300. started off with rough pencils, shown below and then the final inks.
YES! the return of sketch night! these days it takes place at the very cool Geek Easy, located inside one of Orlando’s best comic shops, A Comic Shop. i’m afraid i can’t expound too much on what the model dressed up as, but i assume it’s an anime character. how did i know? because she had a 8 foot long sniper rifle prop! we start off below with 30 second sketches, using a black Copic sketch marker.
tonight’s model goes by Arsenic Arson. and all night long, she didn’t break a smile! very intense and very cool. below are 1 minute sketches.
so, here’s where i begin to experiment more. the last sketch night i did, i focused on body frame and posture. tonight, i just, well, do whatever. between using crosshatch shadings and just trying to elaborate more on features to make it more comic-book-y. below are the 5 minute sketches, done in Copic multiliner 0.1.
next is a 15 minute sketch but i had problems with my trusty mechanical pencil! eventually i gave up on fixing it to proceed with the sketch. Copic multiliner 0.5.
tonight’s sketch challenge is to incorporate robot dinosaurs. i tried to incorporate some of what the model was projecting. 15 minutes with 5 minutes of touchup.
and the night ends with 2 more 15 minute sketches. i really like the below images. i was starting to get tired and fearing my artwork was degrading. but i think i pulled it off and was very happy with the whole night. i think my morning sketches have been really helping to get better at drawing in general.
next up from HBO’s Game of Thrones is Theon Greyjoy. that’s a cool name.
done with Copic multiliner 0.1, 0.5, and sketch.
man, i can’t tell what to do with you! are you a good king, a crappy one, or just an incompetent one. whatever you do, don’t mess with the Starks! this is King Robert Baratheon of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
really tried to experiment some with the hash shading. probably did a pretty bad job of it but it looks alright. i need to seriously do a lot more shading with ink. face and inner beard done in Copic multiliner 0.1 and outlines done in 0.5.
