feels good to finally get some closure. i know not all relationships that end warrant this kind of civil discussion, especially not right away. i would think that if you had the opportunity though, even years later, it might be worth your time. even though we’ve probably changed and grown quite a bit since, there’s probably still something to learn upon reflection. if you’re dating someone right now, make sure they’re ok with it before you reach out to your past!
that quote came from Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth (1989) by Grant Morrison and art by Dave McKean. i’m pretty proud of this week’s strip. it’s not very often the final product actually comes out the way i wanted it to. i used Copic markers to get the tree backgrounds.
I’m getting ready for my upcoming jamm week (one week totally devoted to drawing!) and need to do some character designs. below is a hero main character I came up with. he’s supposed to e from another planet who has now adopted earth as his home, ala Superman. thoughts?
below are some if the steps I took to make this drawing. I start off with the basic form, usually from a live reference. then I do tighter pencils. for coloring, I used neutral gray copic sketch markers, starting with the lighter ones and working towards the darker shades. finally, I add in the busted up concrete to really give the character some weight.
welcome to the new year’s! i hope you had a great holidays with your loved ones. and i’d also like to take the time to say thank you to you for (still) reading this comic strip. i started drawing Finn back in December of 2007 as simply a means to keep my regularly producing new artwork. years later, i find myself still enjoying drawing the character and see my art skills have (hopefully) improved. thanks for sticking with me on this journey and i hope you enjoy what i have in store for this new year. heck, i hope Finn does too!
i don’t know about you, but it’s a constant struggle with me – do i go out and paint the town, or stay in the comfort of my home? usually, in either case, i don’t regret it. on one hand, you’re out and about, with friends, getting some rich new memories and experiences. on the other, you’re super comfy, and if you’re like me, watching cartoons or some movies. it only gets more interesting when you’re making that decision with someone. and as much as you may debate what to do, just keep in mind that either way, it’s all good!
artwork-wise, i did something different with the first panel. i decided to use Copic sketch markers of vary grays to get the city skyline effect. can’t say i was really happy with it. i thought the Copic would seamlessly blend in a bit more. your thoughts?
saving one of the best for last, i present to you the Khaleesi from HBO’s Game of Thrones, Daenerys Targaryen! i think one of the things i love most from this series is all the fantastic quotes and one liners. for her, “my heart is not gentle.”
done in Copic multiliner 0.1 and 0.5 in my sketch book.
back to the Game of Thrones sketches! i was out of town last weekend, hence the lack of drawings. this week we kick it off with Jorah Mormont! now, i really like this guy but cant tell who’s side he’s on. all i know is that the Khaleesi should feel safe with him around!
this is my second attempt at drawing him, and i’m much happier with this one, although it’s kind of light with only 20 minutes worth of drawing. done in Copic 0.1 multiliner on the face and beard, and 0.5 for the hair and clothing.
watched last night’s new episode of Games of Thrones and Tyrion Lannister is becoming one of my favorite characters on the show. despite his physical challenge, especially in that culture, he’s been able to survive, with humor and style! here’s hoping he survives being a Lannister!
done with Copic multiliner 0.1 and 0.5, with sketch for the solid blacks.
finally got to one of my favorite actresses and part of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Lena Headley. you may know her from the short lived Sarah Conner Chronicles or as the king’s wife in the movie 300. started off with rough pencils, shown below and then the final inks.
next up from HBO’s Game of Thrones is Theon Greyjoy. that’s a cool name.
done with Copic multiliner 0.1, 0.5, and sketch.
man, i can’t tell what to do with you! are you a good king, a crappy one, or just an incompetent one. whatever you do, don’t mess with the Starks! this is King Robert Baratheon of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
really tried to experiment some with the hash shading. probably did a pretty bad job of it but it looks alright. i need to seriously do a lot more shading with ink. face and inner beard done in Copic multiliner 0.1 and outlines done in 0.5.
